Allergy Aware
Schools Catering Manual

Reviews & Purchasers

Our original Allergy Catering Manual was published in February 2005. By the end of July we had sold multiple copies of the manual to innumerable hospitals, schools, nurseries, local councils and catering companies. So great was the interest from schools and colleges that we had created a second manual specifically for schools.

The Schools Catering Manual was published in September 2005 and by the end of the year we had sold over 700 books to nearly 400 schools, local authorities and catering companies.

This is what people have said about the Schools Catering Manual:

Education Business: (accompanying a two page article on handling food allergy in schools)
A recently published allergy manual is designed to help caterers cope with the growing tide of allergic or intolerant children. It is comprehensive but easy to follow. For more information check out www.schoolscateringmanual.com

Montessori International:
...an original allergy advice handbook which includes 30 specially designed recipes for school lunches, each one nutritionally balanced and coded for allergy. The book also includes details of what constitutes a food allergy together with symptoms, alternative ingredients and where to buy them, danger foods and a list of useful contacts and suppliers.

And this is what University Caterer said about the original Allergy Catering Manual:
The Allergy Catering Manual is the caterer's bible when providing food for allergic customers. Written by Michelle Berridale-Johnson, it aims to hold the apron strings of any kitchen, provided step by step information for catering for food intolerant customers......... University caterers have been targeted this autumn and out of 300 universities sent details, 60-70 of them ordered the manual by return......

And what the British Food Journal said about the original manual:
Written primarily for caterers this is an excellent and simple to understand book. It should be on the booklist of anyone involved in catering, new product development or food retailing........ the book concludes with a useful list of suppliers and useful contacts. This book certainly deserves to be one of the survival guides for the 21st century.

More of what people said about the original Allergy Catering Manual:

Paul Gayler - The Lanesborough Hotel:

'At last Michelle has provided the answer for dealing with the ever growing demands of food allergics. Written for the professional caterer, it is simple and concise and gives peace of mind. Just what we needed.'

Anthony Worrall Thompson:

With the number of people suffering from food allergies these days it is essential that restaurants get their act together and learn to feed them safely and enjoyably. Michelle has put together a much needed book - essential for every kitchen'.

Hazel Gowland of Allergy Action:

'At last, some really practical guidance to help caterers meet the needs of the growing numbers of people with food allergies and intolerances - a valuable tool for anybody serving food to others'

Sara Jayne-Stanes, Director of the Culinary Academy:

'With the huge growth in food allergy and intolerance - and the sad lack of education on the subject in catering colleges - this will be a really useful book for all of our members. Well laid out, clear and simple to follow, but with a wealth of information. I particularly like the 'Do' and 'Don't' section which can be stuck up on a wall for easy reference - and the wonderful cartoons!'
